A NOTE TO MY YOUNGER SELF (2) : YOU ARE NOT TOO YOUNG TO BE COMMITTED TO A LOCAL ASSEMBLY

I know the concept of attending a church is not foreign to believers, and it is not alien to unbelievers. Everyone knows a church is a place of worship for Christians, but many Christians do not understand the essence of worshipping in a church.

Don’t join the bandwagon of people who go to church to pray, dance, and listen to powerful sermons but don’t understand the essence of the local assembly. Don’t stay in church because it is your parents' church or your Dad is a pastor. You are not too young to understand this; don’t fall into the trap many of us fell into.

It took eight years after my new birth experience to understand the essence of a local assembly. It was not my fault; I was born again in a campus fellowship, and my home church was not somewhere I could grow. I would have prospered in my knowing of Jesus if I had been established in a local assembly designed for growth after my new birth experience.

This does not mean I did not attend any church for those 8 years; I did, but as one who lacks understanding. By mercy, God made me encounter men who pointed me towards Jesus, which sustained me till I was planted by understanding on a local assembly.

The local assembly or church is where God planted you to be discipled for growth, equipped for the work of the ministry, and taught about the essence of new birth experience and the inheritance through the knowledge of Jesus. In a simple format, the local assembly is for knowing Jesus.

It is quite hard to stay in one place; you want to explore and desire to have a taste of everywhere. Dear, you cannot grow like that. Knowing Jesus is in stages, just like your academic curriculum, you have to give yourself to knowing him daily in that not-so-popular church. It is not a popularity race; it is for growth.

It is possible to be in a church for the rest of your life, knowing and loving Jesus, submitting to your pastor, and fellowshipping with the brethren. As much as knowing Jesus is the goal.

If there is something I recommend to my younger ones for their spiritual growth, it is staying committed to their local assembly based on the understanding I shared in this article.

YOU ARE NOT TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND WHY YOU GO TO CHURCH TO DO ALL THAT YOU DO!
